Top 7 recommended supplements for better gut health

While many are seeking the magic cure-all supplement for better gut health, the truth is there’s no such thing.

Everyone’s gut microbiome and physiology is unique – and it all depends on the underlying cause of gut imbalances.

Having said that, there are some key supplements I use with clients that help fast-track results, ease symptoms and support the gut healing process.

As a Gut Health Practitioner, here are my top 7 most recommended gut health supplements in client consults:

PROBIOTICS
– the right probiotic depends on the specific symptoms, as each strain has different benefits such as for eczema, sensitive tummies, mental health or histamine sensitivity.

DIGESTIVE ENZYMES
– are critical to help us break down food and extract nutrients. These can be useful for those that feel tired, bloated or experience indigestion after meals. Clinical testing can identify which specific enzymes are needed for best results.

SLIPPERY ELM
– this herbal remedy can bring relief to the stomach as it coats and soothes inflamed tissue. This coating can act as a barrier against excess acidity and ulcers, and also leads to increase mucus production which helps to protect the gastrointestinal tract.

ANTIMICROBIAL HERBS
- such as oregano, berberine, grapefruit seed extract, clove and pau d-arco are all helpful in rebalancing the gut where there is bacterial overgrowth (e.g. streptococcus) or fungal overgrowth (e.g. candida)

GLUTAMINE
is an amino acid often considered the most important nutrient for healing of 'leaky gut’. It supports to strengthen and maintain a healthy gut barrier, helps to regenerate cells and has anti-inflammatory properties.

ZINC
is an essential mineral in strengthening the gut lining. It also helps balance acidity levels in the gut, and supports hydrochloric acid and digestive enzyme production which is critical for healthy digestion.

OMEGA 3
s are an essential fatty acid that help support diversity in the gut microbiome, by increasing short chain fatty acid producing bacteria – that’s a good thing! Omega 3’s are also shown to help reduce inflammation in the intestines.

Now, before you go and purchase all of these - remember what works for one doesn’t work for all.

In fact, some can do more harm than good with the wrong choice of supplement.
Dosage and the right combination always depends on the client.

Clinical testing is always helpful in identifying your needs
and root cause of your symptoms - so that you're not taking unnecessary supplements and it is based on what your body requires, rather than symptoms alone.

And remember - supplements are never a substitute for a healthy diet.

As a Gut Health Practitioner, I help and assess clients with the bigger picture in mind, do clinical testing and go beyond symptoms to identify underlying contributors.

Once we’ve identified the cause, the path forward is much clearer to navigate and saves you months (or years) of frustration, money, trial and error in your gut healing journey.

Whether you wanrt to support your gut, hormones, energy levels, mental health or overall wellness, I take the overwhelm and confusion out of deciding which diet, supplement or lifestyle hack to choose.

In an hour of power, you receive a simple, doable plan for the best results.
